Masks & Spiral Staircases

Masks & Spiral Staircases

Hey again guys, back to some portraiture as you can probably see! This is a shoot of my dear friend Charlotte. Charlotte is a fellow artist and studies Graphic Design. This shoot wasn't particularly well planned but I think we got some good shots. She is definitely a bit of a natural cough cough *poser* ;). I ended up trying to go for a grungy kind of theme with this set of photographs, this is why most of the images are in black and white; as I feel it adds to the atmosphere. I have included the colour versions so you can see the difference yourselves.

I guess the message for this post is to always experiment and just have fun with your friends you never know what results you may get. If you like what you shoot or find a good idea, you can always plan and revisit!

Just on a side note, the university year is about to begin. For the following year I shall be President of the Photography Society at the University of Hull. Please show support for the group on the following links:

Out and about - Kingston upon Hull.

Hello ladies and gents! I thought I would post something a bit different to my usual portrait work. Here are a few photographs from around the city of Hull. As you can see, I've not had as much practise at landscapes, as I have with portraits, but I hope you still enjoy the images. In these photographs I have tried to generate a sense of depth. In the photographs of the pedestrian walkway I have tried to use the lines of the railings to draw the eye into the background. I feel this is a key element when trying to shoot landscapes, you need something to draw you in and add depth to the image. This can be done through 'lines' bringing you into the image like I have done here, or some kind of foreground interest. You should always include one or the other, or you may end up with a flat looking image!

I have recently set up a Facebook page for my photography, if you guys could get on it and boost those likes it would be fantastic!

Thanks for reading guys,

Lewis

Gold telephone boxes.
The crow that can’t fly.

Hey guys, sorry it has been a while, I’ve been really busy lately. However my photography was featured on Republic’s website and blog this week, check it out on the featured page. In regards to this post's photographs, I was trying to go down the fashion/commercial route for Annie’s fashion blog. The theme I was going for with these images was kind of a dark, ghoulish, tribal style (If you get what I mean!).

I thought I'd just include a couple of images from the day as well. You can probably see my Nikon D80 (old faithful) covered in a Sainsbury's bag. This was to help protect it from the indecisive weather, it was raining on and off! Perhaps this was not the best and most visually stimulating way to protect my camera, but, it was most certainly the cheapest!

Finally, just a little about the gold telephone boxes! Of course you have all heard about the Olympics, and perhaps even that they are painting a post box in every gold medallists home town gold. Well, Hull is a very unique city with its own independent communications network (KC), this is why we also have a gold telephone box in Hull! (Aren't we the lucky ones).

Until next time guys! Adiós!

East Park

This shoot was located in East Park, Hull. I used my Nikon D80 (Perhaps a bit outdated now but it is still a great camera) with the kits lens 18mm-135mm. I've tried to include a few different styles and angles with these set of photographs, mainly the black and white images. I couldn't decide if I preferred some of the images in colour or monochrome so I decided to share all of them with you guys! I was really happy with this set of images, I feel like I can see my own work improving from looking earlier on in my blog.

I think I may have also found my niché! I feel like my portrait photographs are my strongest work, perhaps it is from the assistance of the models I have worked with or just an ability to connect with people through the camera.

Anyway, hope you liked the photographs guys, until next time.

Adiós.

Out and about.

Hey guys, not much to say for this post. I've just been out and about with this good weather we've been having. I do have a comical story surrounding the photograph of the Ray Bans. WARNING! READ NO FURTHER IF YOU ARE FEELING PRUDISH. Whilst at Pearson Park in Hull taking a few photographs, I noticed something quite obscure and quite explicit. In the centre of the park there was a 'couple' getting down to all sorts in broad daylight (when I say getting down... I mean going down...) with hundred of people surrounding them, including minors. I have nothing against public affection but certain stuff should be kept in the bedroom if you get my drift! Unfortunately for you guys I did not take any photographs on this occasion, I was too busy picking my mouth off the floor!  So that's it for now guys, I should have an interesting shoot coming up soon if all goes to plan, so stay tuned!

Until next time, Adiós!
